Mark Townend is not only an outstanding valuer based out of our Devizes office but he has also been chosen to represent England at the 2019 Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships being held in Canada.
Mark hit the headlines having retained his title of All England Masters Powerlifting Champion 2019 on 2nd June. The competition in Manchester had over 200 competitors and saw Mark lift 250kg squat, 175kg bench press and 260kg deadlift to retain his title. As if that wasn't enough, he also broke 4 English records.
Mark only started powerlifting last year and is part of the Swindon Barbell Club based in Lyneham. He trains three times a week and is a newly qualified coach at the club. Mark has also coached at a number of Help For Heroes events, where he works with their powerlifting team in preparation for the UK Games in Sheffield in July, which is a pathway for veterans to compete in the Invictus Games 2020 to be held in The Hague. Mark commented that 'it is exciting to be able to give something back to a sport which has given me so much, and aspiring to help athletes who use sport as a pathway to both physical and mental rehabilitation".
Away from powerlifting and coaching, Mark lives in Calne with his wife and four daughters who I'm sure will be there supporting him.
