New Septic Tank Rules Set to Make A Stink

29th October 2019

New Septic Tank Rules Set to Make A Stink The changing legislation put in place by the General Building Rules for small sewage discharges (SSDs) in 2015 to protect England's surface water resources from pollution caused by septic tanks and other small-scale sewage treatment plants is set to come in to force in 2020.

Homeowners in rural locations have the option of upgrading, renewing or replacing their existing systems as it will no longer be acceptable to allow low quality effluent from septic tanks directly in to ditches and streams.

The new legislation cannot be ignored for those connected to mains drains and the responsibility lies with the owners to understand their systems and the changes that need to be made to comply.
