About this property

**3 DOUBLE BEDROOM BARN CONVERSION** LARGE KITCHEN/DINER** BATHROOM & SHOWER ROOM** NO ONWARD CHAIN**

A handsome detached barn converted in the 1990s into a charming family home. Internally a good sized hallway with solid wood flooring has wooden panelled latched doors that open off to a useful shower room, and a 15ft dual aspect kitchen/dining room with quarry tiled flooring, an electric oven and 4 ring hob and a door to the garden. There is an equally spacious sitting room with an exposed beam and a continuation of the wood flooring. On the first floor landing there are two large walk-in cupboards (one perhaps with potential for a small study), three characterful bedrooms with exposed beams, a modern bathroom. Outside there is a single garage with a parking space in front and a private east facing lawned garden with established trees and shrubs. The origins of the property are that it was a former hay loft for horses and the downstairs was previously cobbled. Hay was winched up through the upstairs hatch door into what is now the protruding window and stowed above on a wooden platform and dropped over the edge to feed the horses when needed. Of particular note is the original front door and a handsome staircase constructed of piranha pine. To the exterior of the property facing the drive is a large original stone trough, which legend has it was a grave that was discovered in the nearby hills and purchased by the farmer who owned Hunts Farm. The cobble stone path to the front door is made of original sarsen stone cobbles that were discovered on site.

The owners have commented that: "When the foundations were dug for this building part of the fossilised skeleton of a woolly mammoth was discovered, it was donated to Devizes museum and subsequently misplaced."

Situation
'The Hayloft' is situated in the heart of the village of Cherhill. The village is nestled on the edge of the Cherhill & Calstone Downs, a 128 hectare biological site of special scientific interest. The historic downs include an iron age fort, Victorian folly chalk white horse and a monument. Cherhill is a highly popular village offering a school, a public house and a church. The village has a thriving community with a number of local clubs and groups. The Calstone Downs offer excellent walking and riding. It is close to a number of historic sites including Avebury and Silbury Hill. A more comprehensive range of amenities can be found in the towns of Marlborough (c. 10 miles), Devizes (c 6 miles) and Calne (c. 3 miles). Also within easy reach is the market town of Chippenham which has a mainline railway station (London Paddington) and excellent access to the motorway at Junction 17 and 14.
